It is a popular manga that was written by Tsugumi Ohba & illustrated by Takeshi Obata.
It's first appearance came into the weekly magazine, Shonen Jump in 2003.
A lot of us are familiar with watching the anime, which originally aired in Japan in 2006, & in 2007 in the US. It has a total of 37 episode's.
Their were also other live action movie's of Death Note as well, but I'm not going to get into that at the moment, but if you're wondering, yes, they were good.
Adam Wingard directed the new Death Note movie adaptation. Unfortunately the response doesn't look like it's the best, but for other's, like myself, have a positive response on the movie & within this article I'm going to explain to you why.
That's what I thought while I watched the movie, it was getting into it so quickly & I wasn't sure how I felt about that. I was skeptical. I felt disappointed, but I still sat through it until the end. First of all, I loved the music they had in the movie. A movie or tv show with good music is always a plus. I just wanted to mention that now.
For the people that don't know, the story revolves around Light, a high school student who find's a book that is labeled as "Death Note" on the front cover. There are rules for using the book, but basically, all he has to do is write down the name of the person while he imagines their face & then the person will die. With Light's newfound power he begins killing people that he believe's deserves it. Thing's of course get out of hand & a lot of crazy stuff goes down.
Light Yagami (though in this film he goes by Light Turner) was played by Nat Wolff. When I first heard that he was Light, I didn't really know what to expect. I think Light was originally more of an evil genius, so in this film I didn't feel like he was as bad, but that certainly didn't ruin anything for me. I have to admit, I honestly ended up loving that Nat was cast for this role. He did not disappoint me at all.

Willem Dafoe played the role of Shinigami, Ryuk. A death God who find's amusement in anything basically evil. I was thrilled to see Dafoe play this character & I honestly can't think of anyone who would do a better job. He was absolutely fantastic & exactly how I imagined Ryuk would be & should be.
Keith Stanfield played the role of "L." Stanfield really surprised me. He may not look like our original L, but he was L. The personality & emotions were there. I really loved this so much. From the way he spoke right down to every action, as well as when he sat down. He really nailed the part.
I respect the hard work everyone put into this film. I don't think it was a bad film. Sure I would have loved to see more of the story that I'm familiar with put into the movie, but I can't complain. I think everyone did a really good job. Although, I have to admit, I was a little disappointed that when Misa touched the Death Note she couldn't see Ryuk. I'm sure they had their reasons for that.
It wasn't a horrible film, & I'm sure I'll end up watching it again.
